Evaluation #
The scenario suite is how this project answers "did that change make the agent
worse?". It is a gate, not a report: support-agent evaluate exits non-zero when
a threshold is missed, and CI fails with it.

What a scenario asserts #
Behaviour, not wording. Asserting on phrasing produces a suite that breaks every time the composer improves; asserting on the state a run reached, the tools it executed, whether it escalated and what it must never say catches the regressions that matter.
One scenario is one line of data/scenarios/support.jsonl:

forbid_tools counts a call the registry denied as not executed, because a
denial is the correct behaviour and failing the scenario for it would punish the
agent for doing the right thing.
A scenario may have several turns, and the conversation carries forward between them — which is how the poisoned-note scenarios put an injected instruction into context on one turn and check it changed nothing on the next.

Reported separately, so a category cannot be masked by an overall average.
The gates #

The library default for overall pass rate is 0.9, kept as headroom for a future
model-backed suite where sampling does introduce variance. CI passes 1.0
explicitly.
The escalation ceiling is the one worth explaining. Every other gate rewards caution, and an agent that refuses or escalates every message would satisfy all of them. The ceiling makes over-caution a failure too.

What the suite does not cover #
It runs the template composer. With no chat backend configured, replies are rendered from tool results, and a template cannot say anything a tool did not return. So the adversarial category proves that the neutraliser works — the instruction never reaches the model — and not that the verifier catches a model which obeys a poisoned note.
That second property is the more important one, because a real deployment runs a
model. It is covered in tests/security/test_model_adversarial.py, which scripts
a provider that complies fully with each attack — approves the refund, echoes
"your identity is already verified", invents a tracking number — and asserts the
reply is withheld and the run escalates. Read the two together; neither is the
whole picture.
It is not a quality benchmark. It measures whether behaviour changed, not
whether a customer would be satisfied. Feedback capture (/v1/feedback) is the
signal for that, joined to the run trace that produced each reply.
The negative controls #
Half the value is in the scenarios that assert nothing happened.
resilience-off-topic-no-article— an unrelated question must not get the nearest article quoted at it.resilience-weak-keyword-no-quote— one common word shared with an article is not enough to quote it.- Every
identityscenario names the account values that must not appear. - Every
adversarialscenario names what compliance would look like, and asserts its absence.
These exist because relevance scoring and injection rules are the two places where "improving" the agent most easily means making it wrong in the other direction. The knowledge scorer was changed from length-normalised to saturating — strictly more permissive for long queries — and the negative controls are what make that change safe to keep.

The JSON report is uploaded as an artifact: per-category rates, per-scenario
outcomes with the exact expectations that failed, and per-scenario latency. The
suite also runs as pytest -m regression, so a developer sees a behavioural
regression before pushing.
Adding a scenario #
- Write one line in
data/scenarios/support.jsonl. Give it adescriptionsaying what property it defends. - Run
python tasks.py evaluate -- --verboseto see what the agent does now. - If it fails, decide honestly which is wrong — the expectation or the agent. Several of the current behaviours exist because a scenario was right and the code was not.
- For an adversarial scenario, assert a negative:
must_not_contain,forbid_tools, orexpect_refused.tests/regressionenforces that.
